Suicide King Sestina

Short Description:

Written for a class

Poem (Canso):

In Middle’s dawning, there was once a king
Who thought to send Middle and East to war.
Cariadoc, he sent word to the East,
A letter with an arrow, threatening
To bring their certain doom, and to unite.
And so began the founding of it all.

The Middle king, he moved his home and all
And in the East, he soon became a king.
With his missive for war, he would unite
As he agreed to his request for war.
Answering his own words, then threatening –
And so one king doomed Middle and East.

The Middle received a reply from East
And the one king who had planned it all.
“This king, does he rejoice in threatening
Two kingdoms, both of which he was a king?
Why then does he persist with talk of war,
If all our kingdoms seek to unite?”

On the battlefield, soon did they unite
Those two kingdoms, the Middle and the East.
In good spirit did two kings go to war,
Among them, the king who had schemed it all.
The king of Middle was a noble king.
He found no thought of losses threatening.

The war drums resounded, all-threatening.
In their vigor, the kingdoms did unite.
The fight was certain, but who was the king
Who would claim the win – Middle or East?
In little time, there was end to it all,
And so the Middle Kingdom won the war.

Cariadoc would take joy in his war,
And ev’ry year, the two were threatening
Each other, but years came with joy for all,
And every years, the kingdoms unite.
Still each year they fight, the Middle and East –
The story lives of the suicide king.

Annually, we in our war unite; Middle and East come threatening.
We tell the tale of the king losing it all.
