Grace

Short Description:

Note: This was written since John Donne did some religious writings. I tried to capture the subject matter and rhyme scheme, but I don’t think the style itself is anything like Donne’s. I’d like to imitate him someday, as he is one of the poets I liked before I started studying poetry.)

Poem (Canso):

In Thine own time, all men must live and die
As appointed in breath, Adam drew first
And from that same air he found himself cursed,
Born and soon gone as fleeting time pass’d by.
And the years pass as days seen through Thine eye,
And man roams all the earth in his great thirst
To know all things, and rule them at his worst
As in Thy realm, Thou hope he might comply.
In desperation, each goes his own way
Though small as dust and delicate as lace.
He hopes to somehow better his weak ways
Despite his nature, through Thy endless grace.
Such is the nature of the creature man,
Crafted in Thine image, by Thine own plan.
